Nokia N95 8GB as GPS logger ?
by frank on Aug.14, 2009, under EveryDayTec, Technology
Going on vacation normally includes making fotos, or lots of fotos.
If you like (ike me) taking fotos of landscapes, later on its hard to say where it was taken (unless you stay at one place all the time). I. e. I returned from Iceland with roundabout 1.500 fotos from an eleven days roundtrip.
So, maybe there is a solution.
It’s said (uhhhh) that with modern tecniques it should be possible to add GPS (Global Positioning System) informations to the foto. It’s called geotagging and there are some digital cameras which have it already included.
I own non of these, of course.
What are the alternative ?
There are special devices called GPS Data Logger which record the position every x minutes and later on you transfer the data to your PC or somewhat. Then you compare date and time within the fotos with them of the logger and know where it has been taken.
Well, I even don’t own one of these either.
But – I have a Nokia N95 8GB mobile phone with GPS receiver and Nokia Maps. Shouldn’t this work also ?
Doing a quick search in internet shows up a Nokia Sports Tracker which should be able to do this for me.
So, downloading and installing. I hadn’t much time to test it and no idea how to get the data later compared or inside the fotos.
Anyway, let’s start collecting gps data
.
more to come….
